Care Summary
The Tuxedo Urchin is one of the most reef-safe urchins in the hobby, a manageable grazer that picks algae off rocks and glass without the hazard of long spines. It is compatible with most reef inhabitants and is often seen carrying shell fragments and rubble on its surface as a form of camouflage, which is normal, healthy behavior. The challenge is its tendency to rearrange small frags and rubble, so mount valuable corals securely and keep loose pieces out of its path in the rockwork. Feed dried nori or spirulina wafers a few times a week in tanks with limited natural algae growth, and maintain good water quality to keep spine coverage full and even.
