Wonderpus Octopus
Wunderpus photogenicus
Care Summary
The Wonderpus is one of the most visually dramatic octopuses in the hobby, covered in bold white spots and rusty-orange bands that make it look like living art, but it demands expert-level care and a species-only setup. House it alone in a tightly sealed tank with a sandy bottom for burrowing and plenty of rockwork for shelter, as it will eat any fish or invertebrate it can overpower. Escape prevention is critical: these animals can squeeze through impossibly small gaps, so every opening in your tank must be sealed, including filter intakes and overflow boxes. Feed it live or freshly thawed crustaceans like small shrimp or crabs every two to three days, and watch its body condition closely since octopuses that stop eating often decline quickly.
