Care Summary

The Yellow Sea Cucumber is a small, brilliantly colored filter feeder with a bright yellow and orange body that anchors to rockwork and extends its feathery feeding arms into the current to capture passing plankton. Unlike deposit-feeding cucumbers, this species needs to be positioned in moderate to high flow so that food particles are delivered directly to its feeding tentacles throughout the day. The key challenge with all sea cucumbers is the risk of evisceration, where the animal expels its internal organs when severely stressed, releasing toxins that can devastate a reef tank if the animal is small and the tank is not large. Feed it regularly with phytoplankton, oyster eggs, or other fine suspended foods to keep it actively filter feeding and healthy in your system.
