Care Summary
Acropora solitaryensis forms a plating, fused-branch table, its branches merging into a solid, sculptural plate quite unlike an open staghorn. Aquacultured pieces show blue, purple and green, often with the plate's edge carrying the brightest colour. Growth is moderate, the colony expanding outward as a coherent sheet once it has settled.
Care
An advanced species for a mature, stable SPS system. Alkalinity stability comes first — minimise swings and hold calcium and magnesium consistent to support the steady calcification a fused plate requires. It wants high light, roughly PAR 250–400, introduced gradually, and strong random flow across the plate's surface and beneath its rim, never a constant jet. Because the branches are fused, check that the underside and centre are not becoming detritus traps. An encrusting base at the margins and polyp extension across the plate are the health signs; central die-off is a prompt to review flow and stability history.
Placement and growth
Place it in the middle to top zone where light is strong, reserving wide room for a plating form — it will need lateral space well beyond its starting size. Keep at least 2 in of clearance from neighbours as a minimum, more in the direction of growth, and account for the shade a mature plate casts below. Mount it level and secure from the start.
