Armageddon
Zoanthus sp.
Also known as: Armageddons
Care Summary
Armageddon is a classic Zoanthus strain with a pink-red radial face set around a clean white mouth. The rays fan out from the centre like a small explosion, which is exactly how it earned its name, and that contrast keeps the pattern readable even on a crowded frag rack. A tier 1 zoa, it has stayed in demand because the colour combination is simple, bold and instantly recognisable in a mixed zoa garden.
Care
Keep it low to mid in the tank under medium light, with medium flow washing through the mat to keep detritus from settling between polyps. As with other zoanthids, measurable nutrients help it thrive; zoanthids sulk in ultra-clean water and may stay small or closed. Hold alkalinity stable, let the colony acclimate in one place, and its easy care rating and fast growth should show once the mat starts pushing out new heads.
Keeping and spread
Armageddon is mat-forming, spreading outward as new polyps bud from the edge. Allow about 2 in of space around it so that fast spread does not turn into contact with slower neighbours, which it can smother as it advances. Its aggression is moderate, so placement matters more than sting. To frag, cut through the mat between polyps and mount the separated piece on fresh rockwork or a plug.
