Devil's Armor
Zoanthus sp.
Also known as: Devils Armor
Care Summary
Devil's Armor is a Zoanthus strain in the same bold family as Armageddon, but darker: a pink to purple radial face around a white mouth, with a moodier, armoured look to the pattern. The deeper tones give colonies a shadowed richness that lighter pink zoas lack, and the white centre keeps each polyp defined. It sits in tier 2, a well-regarded strain for keepers who like the radial style with a little more darkness to it.
Care
Give it bottom to middle placement under medium light and medium flow through the mat. It is an easy zoanthid when the basics are steady: measurable nutrients in the water, since zoanthids sulk in ultra-clean water, and stable alkalinity without sharp swings. Flow should keep the colony clean without blasting the polyps shut. Once established, expect fast growth from a healthy mat, especially once the edge starts budding regularly.
Keeping and spread
This strain spreads as a tight mat that can advance steadily across rock. Plan for about 2 in of space around the colony, because a fast mat with moderate aggression can overgrow and smother slower neighbours placed too close. If you want to contain it, keep it on its own rock island. Frag by cutting the mat between polyps, lifting a section, and securing it to a plug to heal and spread.
