Blue Agave People Eater
Zoanthus gigantus
Also known as: Blue Agave, Red Halo; Zoanthus gigantus (People Eater)
Care Summary
Blue Agave People Eater pairs a blue-grey face with a red ring and a green mouth, a three-tone combination that gives this People Eater real depth. The cool agave centre makes the red halo pop, and the green mouth finishes the target-like pattern. People Eaters are Zoanthus gigantus despite being sold as palys, so expect larger, meatier polyps than a standard zoa. A tier 2 strain, it is one of the more distinctive colour forms in the group.
Care
Keep it in the bottom to middle of the tank under medium light and medium flow through the mat. Like other zoanthids it wants measurable nutrients; zoanthids sulk in ultra-clean water, closing down instead of growing. Stable alkalinity and a settled placement suit it well. Growth is slow for this strain, so patience is part of the deal: hold conditions steady, resist moving it, and let the mat build momentum over months rather than weeks.
Keeping and spread
Spread comes from slow mat extension, with new polyps appearing at the colony edge. Even at a slow pace, give it roughly 2 in of space, because the mat will claim what it touches and its moderate aggression means slower neighbours can be smothered once contact is made. Frag by cutting the mat between polyps and mounting the piece securely; allow slow growers extra healing time before expecting new buds.
