Battlecorals Backdraft
Acropora sp.
Recommended from the shop
Care Summary
Battlecorals Backdraft is a red-orange Acropora strain from Battlecorals, the aquaculture operation run by Adam Derickson with a reputation for proven, tank-grown SPS. The colour runs warm through the body — red shading into orange — like the rush of flame its name suggests. On actively growing colonies the brightest tones sit on newer growth, giving the whole piece a sense of movement.
Care
Keep Backdraft as an advanced Acropora in a mature SPS system, with high light and strong, random flow. Alkalinity stability underpins everything: hold it steady, keep calcium and magnesium consistent, and maintain nutrients in a controlled, non-zero range. Test on a schedule, dose in small increments, and ramp frags into full light gradually. Warm red-orange colour is a good indicator that light, flow, and chemistry are all in balance.
Placement and growth
It does best at the top of the aquascape, in peak light and turbulent flow, mounted firmly so it can encrust and branch at a moderate rate. The coral is peaceful, but it needs clear space around it — keep it away from aggressive neighbours that could sting it and from taller pieces that would shade it as they grow.
