Chiquita
Zoanthus sp.
Also known as: Chiquitas
Care Summary
Chiquita is a Zoanthus strain with a bright yellow-green face and a speckled centre, the flecked middle adding texture to an otherwise clean, citrus-bright disc. Colonies read as a vivid yellow-green patch with a dotted heart to every polyp, pairing well with purple and blue zoanthids for contrast. It is a Tier 3 collector strain, less commonly seen than the staple greens and kept for its brightness.
Care
Provide medium lighting and medium flow in the bottom to middle of the rockwork. Maintain measurable nutrients — zoanthids sulk in ultra-clean water — stable alkalinity, and flow moving through the mat so the colony stays clean. Rated intermediate in care difficulty, it rewards steady conditions and gradual light acclimation, with colour assessed only once the colony is fully settled.
Keeping and spread
Growth is moderate and mat-forming, encrusting outward over available rock. Give it about 2 in of clear space, since the mat can smother slower neighbours on contact, and consider an island placement for containment. Aggression is moderate. To frag, cut the mat between polyps, mount the section, and leave it in medium light and flow until the cut edge has healed.
