Goochster
Zoanthus sp.
Also known as: Goochsters
Care Summary
Goochster is a Zoanthus strain with a pink-red radial face and a clean white mouth, the pale centre providing a sharp focal point in each polyp. The radial streaking softens the colour at the edges while the centre stays bright, giving a colony a lively, speckled-pink effect at viewing distance. It is a Tier 3 name, a collector strain rather than a beginner staple, and is usually grown in dedicated zoanthid gardens alongside other patterned Zoanthus.
Care
It requires medium lighting and medium flow, positioned in the bottom to middle of the rockwork. Maintain measurable nutrients — zoanthids sulk in ultra-clean water — and stable alkalinity, and keep flow moving through the mat to discourage algae and detritus between polyps. Care difficulty is intermediate, so acclimate it to light gradually and avoid repeated repositioning while it establishes its mat.
Keeping and spread
Growth is moderate, spreading as a mat that can eventually smother slower neighbours if allowed to reach them. Provide about 2 in of separation, or contain it on an island rock where its spread is easy to trim back. Aggression is moderate. Fragging is by cutting the mat between polyps and mounting the cut piece; frags recover best left undisturbed in moderate flow until the edge has healed and polyps open fully.
