Joe the Coral

Joe the Coral is a tier-two Acropora strain from ORA that stands out in this set for combining named-strain colour with faster growth. Its signature colours are a blue-green body with blue tips, and the seed record notes it as a fast grower. That pace, together with its intermediate listed difficulty, has made it a familiar choice for keepers building experience with Acropora before tackling the most demanding strains.

Care

Although it is listed as intermediate rather than advanced, it still belongs in a mature SPS system with high light and high, strong random flow. Alkalinity stability remains important; faster growth uses calcium, alkalinity and magnesium steadily, so regular testing and consistent dosing are needed to keep up. Stable nutrients and clean water support the blue-green body and blue tip colour, and sudden swings can still set it back even if it is more forgiving than slower strains.

Placement and growth

Give it a top placement with strong light and varied flow and allow more room than its frag size suggests, because fast growth quickly turns a small piece into a branching colony. That growth rate makes it useful for filling an upper SPS zone, but neighbours should be spaced with its expansion in mind. It is peaceful, so management is about space and light rather than aggression. Settle it in one position and let its pace work in its favour.
