Acropora sp.

Care Summary

MattV Orange Envy is a tier-two Acropora strain from MattV, defined by a warm palette that is uncommon among the blue and purple strains in this group. Its signature colours are an orange body and orange polyps with green accents, giving the colony a bright, contrasting look at both the branch surface and the growing areas. The green accents are part of the appeal, breaking up the orange rather than competing with it.

Care

Keep this advanced coral in a mature SPS system with high light and high, strong random flow. Alkalinity stability is essential, with calcium and magnesium held steady and nutrients kept consistent from week to week. Strong, stable lighting supports the orange colouration, while abrupt changes in intensity or water chemistry can dull it. Follow the usual named-Acropora discipline: regular testing, gradual corrections and minimal disturbance once the frag is settled and encrusting.

Placement and growth

Place it at the top of the rockwork where light and turbulent flow are strongest, leaving room for a moderate-growing colony to branch openly. Growth is moderate, so a settled piece should build form steadily under stable conditions. It is peaceful, but faster neighbours can shade its lower branches, so choose a permanent position with clear space around it and good light reaching the whole colony.

Identification notes

This strain is often attributed in the hobby to Acropora tenuis. That attribution is unverified and is recorded here only as a hobby attribution, not as a confirmed species identification; this entry therefore remains at genus level as Acropora sp.
