Miyagi Tort
Acropora tortuosa
Recommended from the shop
Care Summary
Miyagi Tort is an Acropora tortuosa strain from Copps, grown out as the Blueberry Miyagi Tort line, and a well-regarded tier-two tort. Its signature colours are a blue-purple body with bright blue tips and green polyps, giving it a layered look that shifts between blue and purple under reef lighting. Like other torts, it is valued for dense structure and saturated colour rather than speed.
Care
Keep this advanced coral in a mature SPS system with high light and high, strong random flow. Alkalinity stability is central to success, supported by steady calcium and magnesium and a consistent maintenance routine. Avoid sudden changes in lighting, nutrients or alkalinity, as tortuosa strains often respond slowly and recover slowly. With stable water, the blue-purple body and bright tips are most likely to hold their contrast.
Placement and growth
Mount it high on the rockwork in the top placement zone, in direct light and turbulent flow, and leave space around it for a compact upright colony to develop. Growth is slow, so a frag may base out and settle for some time before adding much height. It is peaceful, so placement planning is mostly about light, flow and future shading. Once established in one spot, leave it alone and let consistency do the work.
