Rhodactis Mushroom
Rhodactis sp.
Rhodactis mushrooms are corallimorphs — soft, disc-shaped polyps covered in short, fuzzy tentacles that give a colony an almost velvet texture. Each polyp carries a single mouth at its center, and a group of them packs shoulder to shoulder across rock, reading as one continuous, brightly colored carpet.
Care
One of the hardiest animals in the hobby: low to moderate light and low, gentle flow suit it best, low in the tank on rock or rubble. It feeds from the light through its symbiotic algae and will take fine meaty foods offered at the mouth. Left alone it spreads on its own — splitting and creeping by pedal laceration until one rock becomes a whole patch — so give it room: a rhodactis multiplies fast, crowds its neighbors, and can sting what it touches.
