Tierra del Fuego
Acropora sp.
Recommended from the shop
Care Summary
Tierra del Fuego is an Acropora strain from Wet Thumb Frags, named for the 'land of fire' at the tip of South America. The colouring earns the name: a red-pink body carries yellow-green polyps, so the coral looks flecked with sparks across its branches. That polyp contrast over warm tissue is the signature, and it stands out sharply against the blues and purples that dominate most SPS displays.
Care
Keep it as an advanced Acropora in a mature SPS system, with high light and strong, random flow. Alkalinity stability comes first — hold alkalinity, calcium and magnesium steady, test regularly, and adjust dosing in small steps. Keep nutrients controlled but present, since both spikes and starvation will dull the red-pink body. Acclimate new frags to full light gradually and avoid changing several parameters at once.
Placement and growth
It belongs at the top of the aquascape, in the strongest light and flow available. Growth is moderate once the base has encrusted onto a secure mount. Peaceful toward other corals, it still needs open branching room and protection from shade and from aggressive neighbours that could reach it. Vivid polyps and active tips show the placement is right.
