Care Summary

The Lyretail Anthias is the most commonly available anthias species and one of the hardiest; it is a good entry point for reefers who want to try anthias without the risk of more delicate species. Keep a harem of one male to four or more females in 75+ gallons; the male will develop his vivid coloration only in the presence of females, and lone specimens never show their best colors. Feed enriched frozen mysis and brine at least twice daily; anthias have rapid metabolisms and skipping feedings causes visible weight loss within a week. Moderate to strong flow and open swimming space in the upper column keep them comfortable; they need to move freely to feed on passing planktonic particles, which is their natural foraging behavior.
