Care Summary

The Purple Queen Anthias is a breathtaking deep-water anthias with rich purple and yellow coloration; it is more demanding than Lyretail or Bartlett's Anthias and requires extra attention to feeding and flow. Keep a harem of one male to four to six females in 100+ gallons; solo specimens rarely eat well and the vivid male coloration only develops and maintains with females present. Feed enriched frozen mysis and brine three times daily; this is a deepwater species with a fast metabolism that will waste quickly on twice-a-day feedings in anything less than an ideal system. Moderate flow with gentle currents in the display area suits it better than the strong turbulent flow you would use for SPS corals; it needs to be able to maintain position without fighting the current constantly.
