Care Summary
The Derasa Clam is one of the most forgiving tridacnids, tolerating moderate lighting, a range of placement depths, and less-than-perfect parameters better than its cousins. It does well on the sandbed of most established reef tanks and pairs well with SPS, LPS, or mixed reef setups, provided no wrasses or other mantle-nippers are present. The main challenge is growth rate, Derasa Clams grow fast and need room to expand, so give them space from the start rather than trying to relocate a large, anchored animal later. Calcium supplementation and consistent alkalinity support strong shell growth, and even moderate flow will help keep the mantle clean and the animal healthy for years.
