Care Summary
The Maxima Clam is a flagship tridacnid, renowned for the most intense and varied mantle coloration in the genus, from electric blue to gold, green, and patterned morphs. It anchors tightly to rock with its byssal threads and needs very high light intensity, making it best positioned in the upper third of the tank under quality LED or T5 fixtures. Sensitivity is the primary challenge, Maximas decline quickly from parameter instability, pyramid snail predation, or wrasse harassment, so inspect new arrivals carefully and quarantine before adding. Calcium above 400 ppm, alkalinity at 8 to 10 dKH, and stable salinity are the three non-negotiables, and a tank that nails those three will grow stunning Maximas year after year.
