Care Summary
The Squamosa Clam is one of the best mid-range tridacnids, offering stunning mantle patterns, moderate lighting tolerance, and reliable hardiness for established reef tanks. It settles well on the sandbed or low rockwork, tolerates moderate to high light, and is compatible with most reef inhabitants as long as wrasses and other mantle-nipper species are excluded. Growth is faster than Maxima or Crocea, so give it room, plan your aquascape with a footprint of 12 inches or more, and don't place it where it will eventually crowd corals. Maintain calcium above 400 ppm and alkalinity in the 8 to 10 dKH range, and this clam will reward you with rich color and steady, impressive growth over time.
