Care Summary

The Gigas Clam is the giant of the Tridacna family, capable of reaching over a meter across in the wild and growing impressively large even in captivity. Juveniles are manageable in reef tanks of 180 gallons or more, but customers need to understand they are buying a long-term commitment to a very large animal. Lighting needs are high, similar to Maxima and Crocea, and tank footprint matters more than depth as the clam grows, so wide, shallow systems work best. Calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium must be tightly maintained, and the clam should be positioned where it receives both strong light and moderate, indirect flow across the mantle.
