Cactus Alga (Neomeris species) is a heavily calcified, short-stalked macroalgae that resembles miniature cacti. It requires stable calcium and alkalinity to form its distinctive crystalline coating. Grows slowly and prefers moderate lighting and gentle to moderate flow. It is a striking display species and a good indicator of stable water chemistry. Not aggressive and rarely causes issues in reef tanks. Typically short-lived, dying back after a season; it can be reseeded from new specimens.
