Hump Coral

Porites porites, the Hump Coral, is a dense, mounding SPS with a compact, irregular surface texture — it's one of the more underrated SPS in the hobby and a legitimate test of your system's stability. Bottom placement under high light with medium flow; Porites needs intensity to color up properly and will be dull and unimpressive under lower-output lighting. The intermediate difficulty comes from its sensitivity to water quality over time — it can handle brief imperfection but chronic nutrient issues or alk swings lead to slow bleaching from the base upward that's hard to reverse. No direct feeding required; this is a coral where water quality discipline, dialed-in chemistry, and consistent high light do all the work.
