Kedds Reds
Zoanthus sp.
Also known as: Kedd's Reds, Kedds Redds
Care Summary
Kedds Reds, also written Kedd's Reds or Kedds Redds, is a Zoanthus strain prized for a solid, deep red colour on a notably small polyp. Without rings, speckles or contrasting centres to rely on, its impact comes from saturation and density — a tight mat of small polyps reads as a deep red carpet. It is a Tier 2 hobby name, well established as a straightforward red zoanthid for collectors who want true red without pattern.
Care
This is an easy-care strain for medium lighting and medium flow, suited to the bottom to middle of the rockwork. Keep flow moving through the mat to prevent detritus build-up, keep nutrients measurable — zoanthids sulk in ultra-clean water — and keep alkalinity stable. Small polyps can close for a day or two after shipping or dipping; with steady conditions they reopen and colour is best judged once the colony is fully settled.
Keeping and spread
Growth is moderate and mat-forming. Even with small polyps, a healthy colony spreads steadily and can smother slower neighbours, so provide about 2 in of breathing room or grow it on a dedicated rock island. Aggression is moderate. Fragging follows the standard method: cut through the mat between polyps, mount the piece, and give it moderate light and flow while the cut edge heals and new polyps bud from the margin.
