King Kong Yuma mushroom
Ricordea yuma
Care Summary
Community submission
King Kong Yuma Mushroom is one of the larger Ricordea yuma morphs — named for its size potential, it develops the characteristic multi-colored bubble vesicles of the species at an impressive scale and looks like a psychedelic anemone when fully extended. Bottom placement with medium light and low flow; King Kong needs calm water to inflate to full size, and in strong flow it will stay constricted and never show you what it's actually capable of. The intermediate rating comes from yuma's tendency to wander and its sensitivity to temperature swings — it will detach and drift if conditions aren't stable, which is stressful for the coral and annoying when it lands on a neighbor. Spot feed with a small amount of meaty food or Reef-Roids monthly to supplement photosynthesis and encourage the infrequent division that produces offsets; yumas are slow dividers but the splits are valuable.
