Little Shop of Horrors
Zoanthus sp.
Also known as: LSOH, Little Shop of Horror
Care Summary
Little Shop of Horrors is a Zoanthus strain with a dark face lit by pink and red speckle and a matching ring, a sinister little pattern worthy of its theatrical name. The dark base makes the pink markings glow like something carnivorous opening up, and colonies develop a rich, speckled carpet effect. It is a tier 1 zoa and a genuine collector piece, known for colour that looks almost unreal under blue-heavy reef lighting.
Care
Place it low to mid-rockwork under medium light, with medium flow passing through the mat. Keep nutrients measurable; zoanthids sulk in ultra-clean water, and high-end strains are no exception despite their price tags in the hobby. Stable alkalinity and a patient acclimation help it settle. Growth is slow, so success looks like a colony that opens fully every day and adds polyps steadily over time rather than racing across the rock.
Keeping and spread
This strain spreads by slow mat growth, so its footprint expands gradually, but give it about 2 in of space from the start. Its aggression is moderate, and once the mat reaches a slower neighbour it can smother it by overgrowth, so plan the garden layout with its mature size in mind. Frag by cutting the mat between polyps and mounting the section on a plug, then leave it in stable conditions to heal at its own pace.
