Mind Trick
Zoanthus sp.
Also known as: Mind Tricks
Care Summary
Mind Trick is a Zoanthus strain with a green face wrapped in pink and purple psychedelic rings, a swirling pattern that really does play with your eyes. The rings are not perfectly regular, which is the charm: each polyp looks slightly warped, and a colony becomes a small field of optical illusions. It is a tier 2 strain, popular with keepers who like their zoa gardens weird, colourful and a little disorienting in the best way.
Care
Place Mind Trick in the bottom to middle of the tank under medium light, with medium flow moving through the mat. It is an easy zoanthid under stable conditions: measurable nutrients rather than ultra-clean water, in which zoanthids sulk, and steady alkalinity. Growth is moderate once the colony settles, and the rings tend to show their best contrast when polyps are fully inflated, so consistent water quality matters more than any single parameter chase.
Keeping and spread
This strain spreads by extending its mat, budding new ringed polyps at the edge at a moderate pace. Give it about 2 in of space around the colony; with moderate aggression, a mat that reaches slower neighbours can grow over and smother them, so site it where its mature footprint is welcome. Frag by cutting the mat between polyps, mounting the section on a plug, and keeping it in similar conditions while it heals.
