Open Brain Coral

Trachyphyllia geoffroyi is the open brain coral — a free-living, solitary LPS with deep, fleshy ridges and some of the most vibrant color combinations available, from neon green to deep red bicolor. Sandbed placement only, under moderate light with gentle, low flow; it can't attach to rock and needs to sit flat on sand where it can inflate freely without being toppled. The common mistake is placing it where it gets blown over repeatedly — a flipped open brain suffocates quickly, so position it in a low-flow pocket and check it after any pump adjustments. Feed it directly every week with meaty foods; open brains are enthusiastic feeders and regular meals are the single biggest driver of growth and color intensity in this species.
