Speckled Krakatoa
Zoanthus sp.
Also known as: Speckled Krak
Care Summary
Speckled Krakatoa is a Zoanthus strain with a purple face under a heavy dusting of gold and green speckle, like ash and sparks scattered over deep violet. The speckle density is the draw: it gives the polyps a textured, almost granular shimmer that changes as the light angle moves. A tier 2 strain, it appeals to collectors building a speckled section of the zoa garden alongside its plainer purple cousins.
Care
Keep it low to mid in the tank under medium light with medium flow through the mat. It is easy in difficulty but slow growing, so stable conditions matter more than intervention: measurable nutrients rather than ultra-clean water, in which zoanthids sulk, and steady alkalinity. A settled colony will open fully and show its best speckle; frequent moving tends to reset slow strains, so choose the placement carefully and commit to it.
Keeping and spread
Speckled Krakatoa spreads slowly by mat growth, gradually extending its edge. Still allow about 2 in of space, since even a slow mat eventually arrives, and moderate aggression means slower or smaller neighbours can be smothered once it overgrows them. Frag sparingly while the colony is small: cut the mat between polyps, mount the piece, and give slow growers a long, undisturbed healing period in familiar conditions.
