Twizzler
Zoanthus sp.
Also known as: Twizzlers
Care Summary
Twizzler is a Zoanthus strain named for its red and white twisted radial stripes, which spiral outward from the centre of each polyp like striped candy. The striped pattern is its entire signature — no two polyps twist in exactly the same arrangement, giving a colony a dynamic, pinwheel appearance. It is a Tier 3 collector name, grown by zoanthid enthusiasts for pattern over size or speed.
Care
It needs medium lighting and medium flow, placed in the bottom to middle of the tank. Keep nutrients measurable — zoanthids sulk in ultra-clean water — alkalinity stable, and medium flow passing through the mat to discourage detritus build-up. Rated intermediate in difficulty, it performs best in a settled, stable reef and with its light increased gradually after introduction.
Keeping and spread
Growth is moderate and mat-forming. The colony spreads by mat extension and can smother slower neighbours if it reaches them, so leave about 2 in of buffer space or grow it on separate rockwork. Aggression is moderate. Fragging is done by cutting the mat between polyps and mounting the piece, allowing frags to heal undisturbed in moderate light and flow.
