Care Summary
Walking Dendro (Heteropsammia cochlea): a small, free-living solitary stony coral (Dendrophylliidae) with green oral disc and long purple tentacles. A commensal peanut worm (sipunculid) lives in its base and slowly moves it across the sand. Unlike most dendrophylliids it is photosynthetic, but it still needs target feeding of small meaty foods (mysis, brine, LPS pellets) 2–3 times a week when tentacles are out. Do not dip it, as dips can kill the worm. Light: Low to medium (about 50–150 PAR). Flow: Low to moderate, gentle. Placement: On the sand bed. Space: About 3 inches; it wanders into neighbors and is easily stung. Growth: Slow; cannot be fragged.
