WWC Pink Passion
Acropora sp.
Also known as: Pink Passion, WWC Pink Passion Tenuis
WWC Pink Passion is a named Acropora strain from World Wide Corals, carried in the master strain queue with a one-line description: pink passion-fruit tones. The WWC prefix names the farm that released and distributes the strain. Keeper records shorten the name to Pink Passion, and the one seller who listed it repeatedly appended the species word, selling it as WWC Pink Passion Tenuis. The queue files the strain as an Acropora sp., and this entry keeps that filing: the tenuis label rests on hobby-trade usage, and no vendor or expert source read for this entry assigns the strain a species name.
No origin or release account for this strain was found in the sources read. There is no WWC product page in search, no release announcement, and no dated first-sale record from the farm. The strain's dated record begins in keeper hands: a Livermore seller's list in June 2020 offering newly cut frags, and a Knoxville keeper's grown-out mini-colony offered in April 2021. By December 2023 the strain was still circulating through the hobby's sale channels, with a keeper recording a frag bought from Cherry Corals during that month's Polypalooza sale. The strain's documented history is a keeper-side history — cutting, selling, growing out — and the entry presents it that way rather than reconstructing a release story the record does not contain.
The colour record is this entry's open gap, and it is stated as a gap. The queue's one line — pink passion-fruit tones — is the only colour description attached to this strain in any source read. No vendor page describes it, no keeper post describes it in words, and no care-database page exists to carry a colour line. A blue-period photograph in one keeper's build thread captions the strain among named tenuis pieces, and a photograph under blue light cannot carry a colour description into a written record. The name itself promises pink, and the queue line agrees, and that is the whole of the evidence: a keeper judging a frag of this strain has the name, the queue line, and the seller's photograph to go on, and should judge the settled, growing coral against the pink reading of its name rather than against any description this entry could offer. Future enrichment should start by finding a keeper or a WWC channel that describes this coral in words.
The growth-form record is one sized keeper piece plus the group record. BlueDevil's April 2021 sale listing describes his WWC Pink Passion as a mini-colony, and his general SPS note for the sale puts his pieces at 1.5–2 in with almost all having multiple branches and new growth — the only record that sizes this strain in a home tank. The tenuis species-group record behind the seller's label describes the group's shape: densely branched colonies whose colour can vary dramatically with tank conditions. No source read gives a growth rate, a doubling time, or a colony-size ceiling for this strain, and the entry claims none.
Care follows the Acropora standard, in the tenuis group's version of it. Top Shelf Aquatics frames the genus as the centerpiece group of advanced systems and Acropora as among the most sensitive corals in the hobby, with stability as the standing condition. A keeper should bring a settled SPS system, stable alkalinity above all, and patience through the settling period the group record describes, where growth can appear stagnant for the first 3–6 months in a new system. The two build threads that hold this strain run mature, established systems — a 195-gallon reboot on T5s and a RedSea Reefer 750 renovation on a kalkwasser reactor — which matches the group's framing at the level of who keeps this coral, without making either system a strain requirement.
Water chemistry follows the standard reef shape, with the group record's table recorded beside it. Reef To Go's standard parameters suit the strain's base: temperature 77–79 °F, salinity near 35 ppt (about 1.024–1.026), alkalinity 8–10 dKH held steady, calcium 400–450 ppm. The vendor group record read for this entry gives calcium 420–440 ppm, alkalinity 8–9.5 dKH, magnesium 1,300–1,450 ppm, nitrate under 10 ppm, phosphate under 0.10 ppm, temperature 75–80 °F, salinity 1.025–1.026, and pH 8.1–8.4. The keeper tank records sit inside or beside that shape at tank weight: NorCalReefing's renovation tank ran calcium near 430, alkalinity 9.0–9.2 dKH, and pH 8.15 on a kalkwasser reactor while holding this strain; njreefkeeper dosed potassium nitrate to keep his nitrate at or above 10 ppm and ran alkalinity near 10 dKH early in his build — a keeper choosing measurable nitrate for a tank that held this strain, recorded as his system's practice rather than as a strain target.
Light follows the group record: 200+ PAR for vibrant colour, whiter light encouraging faster growth at less vivid colour, deep blue enhancing colour at slower growth, and a gradual 2–3 week climb at acclimation. No keeper record read this run reports PAR at this coral. One of the two build threads offers a general observation at tank weight — its keeper stopped using a PAR meter and reported getting better colours with less light across his SPS collection — and the other lights a large renovated system without a published PAR figure for the frag. The entry claims the group floor and records the absence of a strain PAR window plainly.
Flow follows the group record: strong, variable, randomized flow from mixed wavemaker types, audited regularly as the branching colony grows and changes the tank's flow dynamics around itself. ReefBum's tenuis record asks for medium to strong flow. The one flow figure attached to a tank holding this strain is NorCalReefing's pair of MP60s on Reef Crest mode at 85% — a large-tank system record, filed at tank weight, showing the strain living in a high-flow SPS system without making that setting a requirement.
Feeding is a supplement with a real but secondary effect. The coral is photosynthetic first. The vendor group record feeds a phytoplankton blend alongside Benepets, Reef Roids, and various aminos, target-fed gently with pumps off for roughly 10–15 minutes, and notes that nutrient-rich feeding supplies fatty acids and amino acids that support pigmentation, with iron and iodine among the trace elements tied to colour. Nothing in the record ties this strain's colour to a specific food product, and this entry has no strain colour description for a food claim to attach to in any case.
Placement should plan for a branching colony, not a frag. Mount the frag securely in the middle-to-upper rockwork where high light is reachable — the tenuis group record keeps its frag in the top half of the tank — with strong randomized flow and open room on every side. Leave the standard SPS clearance and then some horizontal patience: the group record names growth interference as a standing challenge for branching Acropora, managed by pruning and repositioning, and the one sized record for this strain is a multi-branch mini-colony grown from frag size in a home tank.
Pests and health checks carry the Acropora list. Acropora-eating flatworms and red bugs belong on the inspection checklist for any new frag, dips and quarantine are the standing entry routine, and the genus failure order applies — rapid tissue necrosis under stress or instability, bleaching under sudden light or temperature change, stability checked first and one variable changed at a time. The tenuis pages read for the group record name no pests and give no dip protocol; their challenge list is rapid tissue necrosis, bleaching, sensitivity to parameter fluctuation, and growth interference, and the pest guidance here follows the wider Acropora record used across this database's entries.
Price anchors come from keeper sales only, and the entry labels them that way. The Livermore seller's 2020 list prices the strain at $150 for a medium frag (¾ in on his size codes) in June 2020, $200 for a large frag (1 in) in July 2020, and $150 for a large frag again in December 2020. The Knoxville keeper's April 2021 mini-colony — 1.5–2 in, multiple branches — was offered at $100, a grown piece priced under the earlier year's frag prices, in a hobby-exit local-pickup sale. The December 2023 Cherry Corals Polypalooza purchase carries no stated price. No retail price from WWC or any vendor was found, and no current listing exists in search; prices for other WWC tenuis, for the separate WWC Pink Panther that shared the Livermore seller's list, or for any other farm's Pink Passion belong to those corals and are excluded here.
Field notes — what keepers report
- The price-and-filing record is Wip's "High end SPS for sale" list on the Reef Central archive (Livermore, California; curbside pickup), read in full. His size codes run T and S at ½ in, M at ¾ in, L at 1 in, XL above 1 in, and MC for mini colony. His Pink Passion lines trace the strain across 2020: "WWC Pink Passion $150" among the newly cut pieces on June 6; "WWC Pink Passion $150 Pending" on June 9; "WWC Pink Passion M:$150 Pending L:$200" on June 12; "WWC Pink Passion tenuis L:$200" on July 3; and "WWC Pink Passion Tenuis L: $150" on December 1. Two things ride on this one list. It is the strain's entire early price ladder, and it is the strain's only species filing — the seller began appending "tenuis" in July and kept the label through December. The same list carries "WWC pink panther tenuis" at its own prices (T/S $75, M $150), which keeps the two WWC tenuis names side by side as separate corals in the same seller's hand.
- The grow-out record is BlueDevil's "Corals and fish for sale" thread on Reef2Reef (Knoxville, Tennessee, April 16, 2021), read in full. In a hobby-exit, local-pickup sale, his list offers "WWC Pink Passion (mini-colony): $100," and his standing note for the sale says that unless otherwise noted, all the SPS are at least 1.5–2 in by now, with almost all having multiple branches with new growth. The piece was listed among established named pieces of its era — SC Orange Passion, Walt Disney, TSA Optimus Prime, RMF Acid Trip — which places the strain in ordinary high-end tenuis-era circulation by 2021. The record shows the strain growing out to a branched mini-colony in a home tank and changing hands at $100; it carries no parameters and no colour notes, and the dossier takes nothing more from it.
- The collection record is njreefkeeper's "My 195 gallon reboot" thread on Reef2Reef (January 2022), read in full. WWC Pink Passion appears in his SPS collection list and nowhere else in the thread — no growth note, no colour note, no loss report. The tank around it is documented and is recorded here at tank weight: 195 gallons, an ATI Sunpower 4-bulb T5 fixture (three Blue Plus, one Purple Plus) with two ReefBrite actinic strips, about 110 lb of dry rock, Brightwell MB7 and MicroBacter Clean, potassium nitrate dosed to keep nitrate at or above 10 ppm, and alkalinity near 10 dKH early in the build. His one general colour observation — he had stopped using a PAR meter and was getting better colours with less light — covers his whole SPS collection and is filed at that weight.
- The most recent record is NorCalReefing's "RedSea Reefer 750 Renovation" thread on Reef2Reef (December 2023), read in full. His new-frag post reads: "Added a few new frags from Cherry Corals. Got some great deals during Polypalooza," followed by his haul list — JF Solar Flare, JF Fox Flame, WWC Pink Passion, CC Bill Murray, another PC Rainbow. No price is stated for the Pink Passion frag. A blue-period photograph later in the thread carries the caption "Walt Disney, WWC Pink Passion, Oregon Tort, OP, OP," which is the strain's only photographic record in the sources read — a caption, under blue light, with no written colour description anywhere in the thread. His tank numbers are recorded at tank weight: calcium near 430, alkalinity 9.0–9.2 dKH, pH 8.15, a kalkwasser reactor, and MP60s on Reef Crest at 85%. The record shows the strain still moving through a major retailer's sale event at the end of 2023, three and a half years after the Livermore list opened its record.
- The same-name trap is recorded at full strength because it is the likeliest way this entry gets corrupted later. Coral Euphoria's Vivid Pink Passion is a separate strain from a separate farm, and its keeper record is rich: a keeper running Radion G5 Blues nine inches off the water at full channel output and 67% intensity, reading roughly 400–450 PAR at the top of the tank and about 200 at the bottom; alkalinity dialled to under 0.3 dKH of daily swing on a continuous-drip All For Reef doser with kalkwasser; and a June 2022 account of wrestling growth against colour — excellent growth with some colour pop lost, an ICP test showing low potassium and iodine, and a response of increased water changes plus Red Sea trace elements. Every one of those numbers belongs to the Vivid strain. Search results surface the Vivid record under the shared "Pink Passion" name, and a future editor who lifts them into this entry would be writing another coral's biography into this page. They are recorded here, labelled, so the boundary stays visible.
- The near-name records are kept together. RA Pink Passion appears in a keeper's May 2018 frag-tank post — "Also just recieved RA bubble gum millie and RA pink passion now in frag tank" — a different farm prefix on the same colour-and-fruit name, two years before the WWC strain's first dated record. AquaSD's sale threads carry a Plum Passion Acropora at $35. Top Shelf Aquatics' catalog carries a TSA Periwinkle Passion Montipora at $59.99, a Montipora wearing the passion word. Targeted searches found no Pink Passion from Sexy Corals, Reef Raft, or Battlecorals. None of these corals is this strain, and none of their prices or records appear in this entry's ladders.
- The silence record is part of this entry's evidence and is kept explicit. No WWC product page for this strain was found; no origin or release account was found; no care-database page (TankFacts or equivalent) exists for it; no colour description was found in any source, vendor or keeper; no strain-specific PAR, growth-rate, loss, or pest record was found; and no live retail listing exists in search. The two keeper tank records and the group record carry the care sections between them, at their stated weights. This entry is the thinnest in the program's Acropora series by evidence rather than by effort, and its first enrichment target is a single keeper or WWC source that describes the coral's colour in words.
