Care Summary
The Convict Tang is a schooling fish in the wild and one of the few tangs that can be kept in groups in the aquarium if you have 100+ gallons and add them simultaneously. A group of five or more added at the same time diffuses aggression and creates a natural, flowing school effect that is one of the most impressive displays in the hobby. As herbivores they are excellent algae control fish; supplement with nori clips and quality herbivore pellets to keep them grazing actively throughout the day. Individual specimens can be feisty with other tangs; if keeping just one, introduce it carefully with tang species from different genera to minimize territory conflicts.
