Care Summary

The Orangebar is wildly underappreciated, mostly because the juveniles look nothing like the dramatic adults and a lot of people overlook them at the store. The bright orange bar behind the eye on an adult is one of the cleanest, most distinctive markings in the surgeonfish family. They sift through detritus on the sand bed and pick algae films off rockwork, which makes them legitimately useful in addition to beautiful. Source an adult if possible because the juvenile-to-adult transition is slow, and you want to actually enjoy the orange bar that makes this fish special.
