French Angelfish
Pomacanthus paru
Reef Safe
With Caution
Care Summary
The French Angelfish is a stunning large angel that reaches 14 inches; plan for a 150-gallon minimum FOWLR with excellent filtration and a varied, high-quality diet. Juveniles are jet black with yellow vertical stripes and act as cleaner fish for wild reef populations; adults develop a speckled yellow-and-black pattern that is equally impressive. Like all large pomacanthids it will nip at LPS, clam mantles, and soft corals; keep it in a fish-only system or a very robust reef where occasional coral grazing is acceptable. Feed sponge-based angel blends, nori, mysis, and varied frozen foods daily; large angels that eat diverse diets live significantly longer in captivity than those fed a single food type.
