Naso Tang

Care Summary

The Naso Tang is one of the most majestic tangs in the hobby; adults develop dramatic facial horns and long tail streamers that make it look like a completely different fish from the juvenile. Plan for 180+ gallons; Naso tangs reach 18 inches and are open-water swimmers that become pacing and stressed in tanks under 6 feet long regardless of volume. Feed nori clips daily plus herbivore blends and algae wafers; their large body size means they need substantial food volume and they will burn through nori quickly in an active tank. They are generally peaceful and one of the best large tangs for multi-species tang displays; their size gives them confidence and they are less likely to initiate aggression than Sohal or Clown tangs.
