Corky Sea Finger

Briareum asbestinum, the Corky Sea Finger, is a tough encrusting and branching soft coral with dense purple-grey polyps that give it an unmistakable texture. Mid-tank under moderate light with steady medium flow keeps polyps extended and prevents sediment buildup on its surface. The biggest issue is encroachment — it creeps along rock surfaces and can smother slower-growing neighbors without much warning, so keep an eye on its edges. No direct feeding needed, but it benefits from a well-fed tank with moderate nutrients rather than an ultra-low SPS-style system.
