Care Summary

Raja Rampage is one of the most sought-after chalice corals in the hobby. The body runs a vivid neon green, and the corallites — the eyes — glow a molten yellow-orange against it. Few corals read this bright from across the room, and a growing colony keeps the contrast as new eyes form along the edge. It grows as an encrusting plate that follows the rock or plug under it, so the piece gets wider and more dramatic with time. Keep it low in the tank. Raja Rampage colors best under low to medium light on the sand bed or low rockwork, and too much light washes the green out and can bleach it — acclimate any move upward slowly, over weeks. Flow should be low to moderate and indirect. Strong direct flow lifts the tissue edge and slows growth. Stable alkalinity matters more for chalices than chasing perfect numbers; steady 8–10 dKH keeps the rim growing evenly. Give it room. Like most chalices it puts out sweeper tentacles at night that can sting neighbors, so leave a few inches of clearance on all sides — more as the colony spreads. It feeds at night too: target-feed a small meaty coral food or fine pellet once or twice a week and the eyes will swell to take it. Regular feeding is the fastest route to new eyes and faster encrusting growth. Growth is steady for a chalice once it settles, laying down new skeleton at the rim and budding fresh eyes across the surface. Fragging is simple — cut through the skeleton with a saw, keep the piece low and shaded while it heals, and it will skin back over the cut edge.
