Tubbs Stellata Montipora is a named encrusting SPS with a plating growth form and vivid coloration that develops bold contrast between the coral tissue and white corallite stars — it's a mid-tank SPS that rewards a stable intermediate system without demanding expert-level precision. Mid-tank placement with high light and strong flow; Montipora stellata plates benefit from multi-directional turbulence that prevents detritus settling on the upper surface, which causes localized bleaching if left unchecked. The trap with plating Montipora is that they grow fast horizontally and can overshade corals beneath them before you notice — check the growth edge monthly and frag back the overhang before it becomes a problem. Feed fine particulate coral foods twice a week and keep your alk stable in the 8.5 to 9.5 dKH range; Montipora is a calcium carbonate-heavy encrusted and small chemistry swings show up as white edges or tissue paling faster than most hobbyists expect.
