Care Summary

The Diadema Dottyback is a vivid red and purple fish that is reef-safe and stays small, making it well-suited for 30+ gallon mixed reefs. It can be aggressive toward similarly sized fish, especially other dottybacks; keep only one per tank unless the system is large enough for clearly separated territories. Feed frozen mysis and meaty small foods twice daily; dottybacks are carnivores and need protein-rich food to maintain their intense coloration. Captive-bred specimens are available and acclimate better than wild fish; they eat prepared foods readily from day one and are noticeably hardier over the long term.
