Care Summary

Gulfweed (Sargassum natans) is the iconic free-floating brown macroalgae of the open Atlantic. In the aquarium it requires very strong lighting and turbulent flow to replicate its natural conditions. It grows moderately and can provide excellent habitat for pipefish, seahorses, and small shrimp. It benefits from iron and trace mineral supplementation. Long-term success requires dedication to high light and flow; without it, fronds will slowly pale and deteriorate. Best for experienced macroalgae keepers.
