Care Summary
Hypnea is a red macroalgae with wiry, branching fronds that grows quickly under moderate to high lighting. It is an effective nutrient exporter and a good food source for tangs and other herbivorous fish. Can become a nuisance if left unharvested — trim weekly and remove excess. Tolerates a range of water conditions but does best with stable salinity and temperature. Tends to attach loosely to surfaces; best kept in a refugium with moderate flow to prevent it tangling in equipment.
