Engineer Goby

Care Summary

The Engineer Goby looks like a fish but behaves more like a burrowing worm; juveniles school in the open water column while adults become dedicated substrate excavators. Plan for it to rearrange your entire sandbed and undermine any loose rockwork; fragged colonies placed near the substrate are at risk, so secure your aquascape with reef-safe epoxy. It is reef-safe and peaceful toward corals and other fish, but its burrowing activity can stress corals that get buried or have their bases destabilized. Feed frozen mysis and meaty foods twice daily; juveniles school and eat in the open while adults tend to feed near their burrow system, so vary your feeding target zones as the fish matures.
