Care Summary
The African Flameback is one of the most affordable and underrated pygmy angels, holding its own visually against fish that cost three times as much. Keep it in a 30-gallon minimum with plenty of rockwork caves; it will claim a territory and defend it, so add it before more aggressive fish. Feed a mix of frozen mysis, brine, and high-quality pellets plus occasional algae sheets to keep it from nipping at coral polyps out of boredom. Reef-safe is labeled caution for a reason: in small tanks with limited food options it will graze on LPS and zoanthids, so keep it well-fed.
