Care Summary

The Flame Hawkfish is a striking all-red fish with black reticulation that perches boldly on high points in the tank and surveys its territory with obvious confidence. It will eat any ornamental shrimp it can find; this is not a maybe, it is a certainty, so keep it only in systems where you do not care about pistol shrimp, cleaner shrimp, or peppermint shrimp. House it in 30+ gallons with varied perching spots; it does not swim constantly but needs elevated positions where it can see the full tank and monitor for food opportunities. Feed frozen mysis and meaty foods twice daily; it eats aggressively and is one of the least fussy fish you can keep once established in a tank.
