Care Summary
The Lined Seahorse is a captive-bred option that is far hardier than wild-caught seahorses, but it is still a specialist fish that needs specific conditions to thrive long-term. Keep it in a species-only tank of 30+ gallons with slow, gentle flow; any strong flow will exhaust seahorses, and fast tankmates will steal every meal before they can catch it. Feed frozen mysis two to three times daily; captive-bred seahorses typically accept frozen mysis from day one, but you must target-feed directly in front of them since they do not pursue food. Male seahorses carry and birth the young; establishing a bonded pair is rewarding and breeding is achievable in captivity, but rearing fry requires separate setups and live foods.
