Care Summary
The Maroon Clownfish is the largest and most aggressive clownfish species; the female can reach 6 inches and will attack hands, nets, and tankmates that enter its territory. House it in 30+ gallons but plan for its attitude: it will own whatever anemone it bonds with and aggressively exclude most fish from a large surrounding territory. It is one of the best clownfish for hosting anemones, particularly Entacmaea quadricolor; the pairing is so reliable and the fish so protective that the anemone often does better than in systems without a host. Feed frozen mysis, brine, and quality pellets daily; it eats voraciously and the only real challenge is managing the bold, territorial personality rather than meeting its dietary needs.
