Care Summary
Rainford's Goby is a beautiful fish with its green and orange striping but has one of the highest mortality rates in the hobby due to its specialized diet of micro-algae and small copepods. Only add it to a mature reef of 30+ gallons with a well-established algae film on the rockwork; it picks constantly at the substrate surface and needs an abundant natural food source or it slowly starves. Feed enriched frozen copepods and baby brine directly near its position; it does not chase food and will not compete at broadcast feeding, so target feeding is mandatory. Avoid pairing it with sand-sifting gobies or other micro-algae grazers that will compete directly for the same limited food source; in most community tanks this fish quietly starves.
