Care Summary

The Yellow-tail Tamarin is one of those wrasses that demands total respect from the keeper before purchase, and beginners lose them almost every time. Females and juveniles are the striking spotted ones you usually see at the store, but transitional males showing yellow tails and spotted bodies are the true showstoppers. A fine, mature sand bed of at least 4 inches is non-negotiable because this fish sleeps buried and will not thrive without it. Wean it off live copepods slowly, have a dedicated refugium running, and quarantine it for six weeks before the display; shortcuts with this fish cost money.
