Care Summary
The Multicolor Angelfish is a deepwater Hawaiian endemic that is rarely available and commands a high price; it requires very stable, slightly cooler water around 72-76F and an established mature reef. Most specimens are collected from depths of 100+ feet and are extremely sensitive to acclimation; buy only from dealers who specialize in deepwater fish and can verify acclimation protocols. Feed sponge-based angel blends, nori, mysis, and varied frozen foods twice daily; color fading is the first sign of inadequate nutrition or stress, and it happens quickly in this species. This is a fish for experienced reefers with established, stable systems; the combination of depth sensitivity, specific water temperature requirements, and dietary needs makes it one of the most challenging pygmy angels to keep.
